The Classification of the Degree of Urbanization is a classification that seeks to characterize
the intensity of settlement in cells of the statistical grid of 1 km2 where the population resides. Based
on population density different categories of areas are defined based on criteria of geographic contiguity, density
and population thresholds according to the methodology described by Eurostat for the assignment of territorial typologies
in statistical mesh: urban centers, urban groups and cells of rural mesh.
As of the 2020 edition and following the latest Eurostat work, level 2 of the degree of urbanization has been included, expanding the number of categories to 7.
Organization: Institute of Statistics and Cartography of Andalusia.
Scope: Andalusia, municipality and mesh in statistical cell.
