Living Conditions Survey

The Living Conditions Survey provides information on income, the level and composition of poverty and social exclusion.

As of 2005, each year a specific thematic module is included in order to annually address relevant social aspects, such as the intergenerational transmission of poverty (2005, 2011 and 2019), social participation (2006 and 2015), housing conditions (2007 and 2012), over-indebtedness and financial exclusion (2008), material deprivation (2009 and 2014), decision-making capacity (2010), well-being (2013 and 2018), access to services (2016), health (2017), over-indebtedness and savings (2020), impact of COVID-19, ways of living together and conditions of children, and child material deprivation (2021) and health and quality of life (2022).

INFORMATIVE NOTE

The AROPE rate of risk of poverty or social exclusion was modified in 2021 in accordance with the new objectives of the Europe 2030 Strategy. It is defined as that population that is in at least one of these three situations:

Risk of poverty (its definition does not change with respect to the old indicator).
Severe material and social deprivation (social deprivation is added).
Low intensity in employment (new definition 2021).

Therefore, in the new indicator, two of its three components have been modified.
